Sculpteur français né à La Ferté-sous-Jouarre en 1818 et mort à Paris le 29 avril 1881, formé comme modeleur chez Jacob Petit avant d'étudier la sculpture à Paris puis en Suisse et en Angleterre. Son buste de Béranger, modelé de mémoire car le poète avait refusé de poser, établit sa réputation ; il exposa au Salon sous le pseudonyme « Adama » (1844 et 1848) et réalisa des bustes de Rossini, George Sand et Lamartine. En 1850, il épousa Georgine Cornélie Coutellier, convertie au judaïsme, morte en 1878 ; vers la fin de sa carrière, il se consacra à la photographie.
