Poète russe, fils de Salomon (Cholem) Abramovitch, né à Berditchev en 1859 et formé au gymnase de Jitomir, il fut impliqué dans un mouvement révolutionnaire et banni successivement dans les gouvernements d'Arkhangelsk, de Samara puis de Kazan. Diplômé à Saint-Pétersbourg en 1887, où il exerça le droit à partir de 1901, il publia ses premiers poèmes dans « Voskhod » et « Nedielia » avant de les réunir en volume en 1889.
