Médecin et écrivain médical allemand né à Hambourg en 1764 et mort dans cette ville le 21 octobre 1817, il obtint son diplôme à l'université de Göttingen en 1783 avant d'exercer dans sa ville natale, où il fut nommé médecin de l'hôpital juif et des pauvres de la cité. Auteur prolifique à partir de 1784, il publia notamment des « Abhandlungen und Beobachtungen über Einige Krankheiten der Augen » (1785) et une étude sur la mortalité des femmes enceintes et des nouveau-nés (1806), et fut membre de plusieurs sociétés savantes d'Allemagne et de Suède.
