Philanthrope suédois et fondateur du Séminaire de sloyd de Nääs, près de Göteborg, né le 29 décembre 1817 à Karlskrona et mort le 6 mai 1898 à Nääs, il fit fortune dans le commerce de quincaillerie à Göteborg avant de se retirer des affaires en 1868 pour acquérir le domaine de Nääs. Il y fonda en 1872 une école industrielle pour garçons, puis, avec son neveu Otto Salomon, un département de formation d'enseignants au travail manuel en 1874, à l'origine du célèbre séminaire qui porte son nom.
