Graveur-médailleur allemand et maître de la Monnaie de Prusse, né à Potsdam en 1754 (ou 1752) et mort à Berlin le 23 juillet 1811, il apprit la gravure auprès de son père Jacob Abraham qu'il surpassa bientôt en exécution artistique, influencé par le style de Chodowiecki. Il grava de nombreuses médailles commémoratives, dont celles de l'affranchissement des Juifs de Westphalie et de leur émancipation par Alexandre Ier, et publia à Berlin, en 1801, un essai sur le style des médailles et monnaies.
