Rabbin de Jitomir, en Russie, vers 1840. Formé à l'étude talmudique auprès de Mordekhaï, rabbin de Tchernobyl et disciple du Baal Chem Tov, il rédigea des homélies sur le Pentateuque, intitulées « Beth Ḥayyim », interprétant le texte biblique selon les quatre niveaux de lecture — littéral, allégorique, homilétique et mystique. Il passa les dernières années de sa vie à Safed, en Palestine.
