Chassé d'Espagne enfant lors de l'expulsion de 1492, il est emmené à Fès par son père Salomon de Torrutiel, talmudiste âgé, élève d'Isaac Canpanton. En 1510 il rédige en hébreu une continuation (appendice) au Sefer ha-Kabbalah d'Abraham ibn Daoud, prolongeant l'histoire des Juifs de 1180 à 1525, avec un témoignage direct sur l'expulsion et les exilés à Fès. On lui attribue aussi un ouvrage kabbalistique.
