L'un des sages de Constantinople au XVIIIe s. et le plus prolifique traducteur en ladino de sa génération. Il réalise la première Bible complète en ladino (imprimée par Jonah Ashkenazi), en colonnes parallèles hébreu/ladino, avec commentaire de Rachi — texte qui devint le plus répandu chez les séfarades d'Orient. Il traduit aussi le Yosippon (Sefer Ben Gurion) et compose des ouvrages d'édification pour rendre les textes accessibles au plus grand nombre.
