Commentateur né à Safed, originaire de Syrie, il exerça la fonction rabbinique à Alep dans la seconde moitié du seizième siècle. Élève de Joseph Caro (1488-1575), avec qui il entretint plus tard une correspondance savante, il rédigea un commentaire du Midrash Rabba, dont seule la partie consacrée à la Genèse fut publiée, sous le sous-titre « Ma'adanné Melekh », à Venise en 1567, par son beau-frère Senior ben Juda Falcon de Venise.
