On lui attribue d'avoir provoqué la révélation des sourates ii. 129, en invitant Mahomet à se convertir au judaïsme, et iv. 50, par son refus d'adopter l'islam ; il aurait un jour reconnu Mahomet comme prophète avant de se rétracter.
