Habitant de St. Gilles, près de Lunel en Languedoc, vers le milieu du XIIe siècle. D'après Benjamin de Tudèle, qui visita la communauté juive de cette localité, il y exerça la charge de bailli vers 1165, sur nomination de Raymond V ; certains ont voulu voir en lui le père d'Isaac ben Abba Mari, auteur de l'« 'Iṭṭur », hypothèse écartée par Gross.
