Financier anglais né à Lincoln vers 1125, mort en 1186, mentionné dès 1166 dans le pipe-roll comme créancier du roi Henri II. Opérant par agents à travers l'Angleterre, il se spécialisa dans les prêts destinés à la construction d'abbayes et de monastères, parmi lesquels l'abbaye de Saint-Albans, la cathédrale de Lincoln et celle de Peterborough. À sa mort, Henri II saisit ses biens comme échus à la couronne, le trésor en numéraire, expédié en France, sombrant entre Shoreham et Dieppe.
