The Halifi Family

Origin of the name, history and genealogy of the Halifi lineage — a Jewish family name and the traces it left behind.

Comes either from the Arabic khalif meaning sovereign or from the Arabic khalifa meaning replacement, successor, the one who ensures the continuity of the family line. It is also a votive first name given to a boy after the death of his brother, as if to replace him. Borne mainly by the Jews of Oran and Morocco.
