One question

Does the Great Book of your lineage already exist?

Write your family name: we will tell you if it remains to be written — or if it awaits enrichment.

Family is often the first step — but everything is a Great Book.

Two paths, depending on your case

Path A

Your lineage's book does not exist — you create it

Nothing has yet been written about your family. You lay the first stone: the lineage record becomes the book's site of work.

Three gestures

  1. Search for your name above. If it appears in the directory without a book, open its record.

  2. Begin writing from the record: the narrative is built on archival items and sources that cite the lineage.

  3. Revise, correct, add your documents: the book is published, translated, and you remain its first witness.

Path B

Your lineage's book exists — you enrich it

The Great Book is already there. It never freezes: each item submitted makes it grow and will be cited in the bibliography.

Three gestures

  1. Open your lineage's book and read what is already recorded there.

  2. Submit what is missing: a document, a photo, an account, an object — signed and dated.

  3. A reviewer validates it, the item joins the book and the narrative is regenerated around it.

The Great Book of the Encaoua lineage

The Encaoua lineage (variants: Al-Nakawa, Ankaoua, and twenty-four other recorded spellings) now has a reference Great Book published on encaoua.org. There one follows its passage from Toledo to Tlemcen in the fifteenth century, its scholarly figures — Ephraïm ha-Nakawa, Ménahem ben Yehouda —, its ties to Maimonides and Nahmanides through the poems and responsa of the corpus, and the documents that families have contributed in a personal capacity.

It is this model that we wish to extend to all lineages — 6,615 are already referenced, each can become the subject of its own Great Book.

Search for it among the 6,615 lineages already recorded, or bring the first pieces that will make it possible to write its Great Book. Find my lineage
