Nom patronymique arabo-berbère indicatif d'une origine : l'ancienne ville d'Anfa — « colline » en berbère — sur la côte atlantique du Maroc, fondée par les Phéniciens puis occupée par les Romains, détruite au XVIIIe siècle et reconstruite par le sultan Sidi Mohammed au début de la seconde moitié de ce siècle, devenue depuis Casablanca. Le patronyme figure sur la liste Tolédano des noms attestés au Maroc au XVIe siècle. Dinar et Moché Anfaoui, notables de Fès, comptent parmi les signataires de la Takana des Tochabim de 1550. Au XXe siècle, le nom, qui n'était porté qu'au Maroc, semble avoir disparu, ce qui fait de sa trace documentaire un témoignage du peuplement juif lié à l'ancienne Anfa.
