Né à Tripoli en 1958 dans une famille de langue et culture italiennes, il quitte la Libye après la guerre des Six Jours (1967). Formé au Collège rabbinique italien de Rome sous Elio Toaff (Maskil et Semikhà, thèse sur le mouvement du Moussar), il enseigne le Talmud à Milan puis succède en 2005 à Rav Giuseppe Laras comme grand rabbin de Milan. Prix de la Fondation Katz 2019.
