Né Bezalel Daiches à Vilna, fils du rabbin Israel Hayyim Daiches. Formé au Séminaire rabbinique de Berlin, docteur en philosophie de l'Université de Leipzig (thèse sur David Hume). Rabbin de la congrégation hébraïque d'Édimbourg de 1919 à sa mort en 1945, figure de la communauté juive écossaise.
