Après la peste de 1743 qui décima les rabbins de Bagdad, la communauté fit appel à Alep, d'où fut envoyé Rabbi Sadqa Bekhor Hussein comme grand rabbin. Autorité halakhique reconnue jusqu'en Perse, au Kurdistan et dans les comptoirs baghdadis d'Inde, il est l'auteur du recueil de responsa Sedaqah u-Mishpat.
