Rabbin de la communauté juive syrienne (alépine) de Brooklyn, il fonde en 1968 le Sephardic Institute et fut longtemps directeur de la Sephardic High School. Disciple de Rabbi Solomon D. Sassoon. Auteur d'un vaste commentaire de la Torah alliant lecture littéraire traditionnelle (pchat) et érudition moderne.
