Né à Sélestat en 1858 dans une modeste famille juive alsacienne, il mit au point des alliages pour applications électriques (fondation de la Société Lazare Weiller, 1883), pionnier des câbles sous-marins et d'un système mécanique de télévision (« roue de Lazare Weiller »). Il créa un prix d'aviation qui attira les frères Wright et des sociétés de télégraphie sans fil ; député de la Charente (1914-1919) puis sénateur du Bas-Rhin (1920-1928).
