גרשון סירוטה
المنطقة: Podolie (Ukraine) ; Odessa, Vilna, Varsovie
Surnommé le « Caruso juif », né en Podolie (région de Haisyn, Ukraine actuelle) d'un père chantre. Après Odessa et huit ans à Vilna, il devient en 1907 cantor de la grande synagogue de la rue Tłomackie à Varsovie. Ténor à la tessiture spectaculaire, il réalise dès 1903 les premiers enregistrements phonographiques de musique liturgique juive et chante jusqu'à Carnegie Hall. Il périt avec sa famille dans le ghetto de Varsovie en 1943.
