Fondée au premier Congrès sioniste de Bâle en 1897 par Theodor Herzl sous le nom d'Organisation sioniste (renommée Organisation sioniste mondiale en 1960). Organisation faîtière du mouvement sioniste, elle visait la création d'un foyer national juif en Eretz Israël et promeut aujourd'hui le sionisme et l'éducation juive dans le monde.
