Fondé en 1976 à l'Université de Tel-Aviv, ce centre de recherche se spécialise dans l'histoire et la sociologie des communautés juives de la diaspora à l'époque moderne et contemporaine. Il publie la revue académique Jewish History et coordonne des projets de recherche comparatifs sur plusieurs communautés (Séfarades, Ashkénazes, Beta Israel). Des chercheurs comme Yosef Kaplan et Shmuel Ettinger y ont travaillé.
