Lugoj est une ville du Banat roumain (comitat de Timiș) avec une communauté juive d'origine séfarade et ashkénaze bien établie depuis le XVIIIe siècle. La communauté, active dans le commerce et les professions libérales, déclina après les déportations de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et l'émigration d'après-guerre.
