The Narmer Palette commemorates the unification of Egypt by King Narmer, inaugurating three millennia of pharaonic civilization — the civilization that would, according to biblical narrative, welcome and then enslave the Hebrews. Understanding Egypt's origins means understanding the framework in which Hebrew identity would define itself.
