Distinct from the Mountain Jews, Georgian Jews (Ebraeli) have lived in the Caucasus since antiquity and speak Judeo-Georgian (kivruli). A community of merchants and artisans integrated into Georgian society, they maintained strong traditional religiosity. A large part emigrated to Israel beginning in the 1970s.
