Ark curtain (parokhet) in gold-embroidered velvet from Poland

Hanging suspended before the holy ark (aron kodesh) in Ashkenazi synagogues of Poland. On dark velvet, relief embroidery in gold thread depicts two twisted columns framing a Torah crown, confronted lions and an embroidered dedicatory inscription. The padded backstitch work gives characteristic relief. Often offered by a couple in memory of the deceased.
