Styptic Powder Vial (isfar) of the North African Mohel
בקבוקון אבקה עוצרת דם של המוהל, צפון אפריקה
(Mohel's styptic powder flask (isfar), North Africa)
विवरण
Small vial or box from the mohel's kit for hemostatic powder (often made from herbs and alum) applied after circumcision. In the Maghreb, these containers in filigree silver or glass mounting accompanied the child's cushion and cloths. Their decoration of flowers and hamsas was as much about care as symbolic protection.
