Wall-Mounted Stone-Carved Hanukia from Yemen

Block of soft stone hollowed with eight cups and a space for the shamash, with a backing carved with geometric motifs and rosettes. Fashioned locally for lack of precious metals, this rustic lamp burned sesame oil from Yemenite communities. Its massive, low form sat on a window sill or was fixed to the wall.
