The hamsa, a stylized hand meant to ward off the evil eye, is widespread among Maghrebi Jews, shared with their Muslim neighbors. In engraved or pierced silver, it sometimes bears a fish, a Star of David or a verse, and hangs in the home or is worn as a pendant.
