Zanzibar (Stone Town), an archipelago in the Indian Ocean under Omani then British sovereignty, witnessed in the nineteenth century the presence of Baghdadi Jewish merchants integrated into the commercial networks of East Africa and India. This presence, linked to ivory, spice, and textile routes, remained essentially commercial and transitory.
