Šalčininkai (Soletchnik in Yiddish), city of southern Lithuania, sheltered a Jewish community from the 18th century, active in local commerce. After the German occupation of 1941, the Jews of the city were murdered in mass shootings, as in most shtetlekh of Lithuania.
