Polotsk

Polotsk is an ancient city in northern Belarus (Vitebsk region), on the Western Dvina, one of the oldest urban centres in the region. Jewish presence is documented there from the fourteenth century. Polotsk was a notable centre of Jewish life in the Pale of Settlement, with significant communal institutions and commercial activities. The community was almost entirely exterminated during the Shoah in 1941–1942.
