Dorohoi (Botoșani county, Romanian Moldavia) hosted one of the most important Jewish communities in the region in the nineteenth century. On July 1, 1940, a pogrom perpetrated by Romanian soldiers claimed several dozen Jewish victims; the community was subsequently subjected to further persecutions and deportations under the Antonescu regime (1941–1944).
