Bacău

Bacău, city of Romanian Moldavia on the Bistrița, sheltered an important Jewish community that actively participated in local commerce from the 18th century. In the 19th century, Jews represented a significant share of the population. The Shoah and forced displacements of the Romanian period (1941–1944) affected the community, which then emigrated massively to Israel.
