Riche famille de Juifs portugais exilés de Bragance sous l'Inquisition, arrivée à Bordeaux via Londres en 1763. Les huit frères (Aaron, Abraham, Gabriel, Jacob — seul médecin —, François-Benjamin…) furent négociants, armateurs, assureurs et banquiers, et acquirent en 1779 un hôtel particulier (« Chantilly bordelais », actuel hôtel Raba, monument historique) ainsi que le château Raba à Talence. Rachel-Amélie Raba-Léon fit don de 100 000 francs au Consistoire pour fonder un hôpital israélite à Bordeaux.
