David Ben Gourion

Founding father and first Prime Minister of the State of Israel (1948–1953, 1955–1963). He proclaimed independence on May 14, 1948 and forged the institutions of the emerging state. A pragmatic visionary, he embodied the renaissance of Jewish sovereignty after 2000 years of exile.
