Didier Nebot traces the story of Rabbi Ephraim Alnkaoua (Encaoua), Chief Rabbi of Tlemcen during the Renaissance, who welcomed Jewish refugees fleeing the 1391 Spanish pogroms and died a martyr in 1442. The book reveals the discovery of his only known manuscript (49 pages) at Oxford's Bodleian Library, among nearly 500 Jewish manuscripts never returned, and offers a complete French translation.
