Noble marrane portugais né à Lisbonne, d'abord consul et payeur de l'Espagne à Anvers, il s'installe à Hambourg où lui et ses fils sont circoncis (v. 1648), revenant ouvertement au judaïsme. Chef de la communauté hispano-portugaise de Hambourg, ministre résident et financier de la reine Christine de Suède ; philanthrope (don de 15 000 marks pour l'érection d'une synagogue en 1659, fondation d'œuvres de bienfaisance).
