Pinsk, 2 Shevat 5690 [1930]. A moving letter of request to "the men of our city distant from our eyes and close to our hearts" to support the great yeshiva in his city of Pinsk, numbering over two hundred young men "and although their spiritual sustenance shall not lack to them, but here lies the trouble... the students of the yeshiva shall suffer terrible hardship in their material sustenance and shall endure almost hunger... it is difficult to see these precious and dear ones meditating on the Torah of the Lord day and night how they trembled from the desert heat upon themselves and darkness of black their appearance from great poverty and hardship...". Gaon Rabbi Aaron Volkin (5585–5702, Otzar HaRabbanim 1548), one of the greatest halakhic authorities and Torah teachers in Lithuania. He studied in Volozhin and was among the select students of the Netziv, later studied in the kollel of the separated in Kovno and was protected in the shadow of Rabbi Isaac Elhanan Spektor. He served as rabbi of the communities of Grozd, Shad and Amtsislav. During the First World War he was arrested by the Russians and while imprisoned wrote his work "Beit Aaron" on the tractate Bava Kamma. He fled miraculously to Poland and there was appointed as rabbi of the city and head of yeshiva in Pinsk-Karlin. Author of "Beit Aaron", "Hoshen Aaron", "Metzach Aaron" and responsa "Zaken Aaron". He perished in the Shoah. 27 cm. Good condition, tears at fold marks.Read — History
