Maximilien Iᵉʳ expelled the Jews from Carniole.
The territory then formed the southern march of the Austrian lands, toward the Adriatic. Those expelled moved in part to Trieste and Frioul, which fell under other jurisdictions, and Carniole had no Jews for three and a half centuries.
