Tevilat kelim is the obligation to immerse in a ritual bath (mikveh) metal or glass kitchen utensils acquired from a non-Jew before using them for food. This rite, distinct from kashering, marks the object's passage into Jewish use. A blessing accompanies the immersion for the relevant utensils, according to precise halakhic distinctions of material and use.
