Purim celebrates the deliverance of the Jews of the Persian Empire from Haman's plot, as told in the Book of Esther (Megillat Esther). The festival has four commandments: reading the Megillah, sending food gifts to friends (mishloach manot), gifts to the poor (matanot la-evyonim), and the festive meal (seudat Purim). Costumes and noise-making at Haman's name are widespread customs.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
