Lilith is a female demonic figure present already in Mesopotamian and Talmudic sources, later developed by folklore and Kabbalah, notably the Alphabet of Ben Sira. Associated with night, the dangers of childbirth, and infant mortality, she inspired protective amulets and varied tales. Her long and complex reception has made her a major figure of Jewish demonology.
