Beyond his philosophy, Gersonides wrote a vast astronomical treatise within the Wars of the Lord, criticizing Ptolemy's model and observing eclipses and conjunctions. He compiled precise astronomical tables and improved the camera obscura. His Jacob's staff (baculus) was used in navigation up to the Renaissance.
