The eruv ("mixture") denotes several halakhic devices that ease certain restrictions of the Sabbath and festivals. The eruv chatzerot and eruv techumin permit carrying objects and extending the limit of movement, while the eruv tavshilin allows cooking from a festival into the Sabbath. These institutions are treated in the Talmudic tractate Eruvin.
