Intersection register · custodian, not owner
After the expulsion from France in 1394, only the Jews of the papal Comtat Venaissin and Avignon could remain on French soil. Confined to four carrières (Avignon, Carpentras, Cavaillon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue), they developed their own rite and language, Shuadit (Judeo-Provençal). Their Baroque synagogues attest to this singular history.
