In Cairo and Alexandria, a cosmopolitan community of Rabbanites, Karaites and European Jews flourished under the Khedivate and the British protectorate. Bankers, merchants and intellectuals (the Cattaoui, Mosseri and Suarès families) shaped economic and cultural life. After 1948 and the 1956 Suez crisis, nearly all of this community was forced into exile.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
