In 1516, the Republic of Venice confined its Jews to the Ghetto Nuovo, giving its name to all future Jewish enclosures. There the Tedesca, Levantina and Ponentina nations coexisted, each with its own synagogue (scuola). A leading centre of Hebrew printing (Bomberg, Bragadin), Venice also saw the learning of Leon Modena and Sara Copia Sullam flourish.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
