Probably arrived via the Silk Road under the Song dynasty, the Jews of Kaifeng built a synagogue in 1163 and formed a learned community integrated into Chinese society. Called by their neighbours 'the sect that removes the sinew', they preserved Torah scrolls and commemorative steles. Assimilation and isolation led to their decline from the nineteenth century.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
